Dvarapalas (or Gate Guardians) are integral part of Hindu and Buddhist temple architecture. Every culture/religion have some concept of gate guardians, who are portrayed as demigods possessing special powers. Even Asgard has all-seeing, all-hearing Heimdall as its Guardian 🙂
