Are you visiting Amsterdam soon and find the hotels in city too expensive? Well, Amsterdam is one of the world’s most touristy cities and travelers tend to stay longer than any other place in Europe.
Even with the abundance of Airbnb rooms in recent years the hotel room availability remains extremely low in the high season (April – September) and mildly low during winters. Amsterdam is a hot favorite among all ( and I can’t complain!)
Recently many hotels have sprung up in Schiphol Airport area which is just 23 kms (14 miles) from the heart of the city and provide us with great option to save money and enjoy longer stay without burning hole in our wallet. The connectivity between Schiphol and City Center is amazingly easy and fast via train that can be booked on http://www.ns.nl/en and tickets are available on the airport as well. It costs around 4.2 euros one way. The train runs every 6 mins during day and travel time is about 15 mins to the Amsterdam Centraal Station.
Best Hotels to stay in Schiphol Amsterdam are all connected to the Airport via a covered walkway, hardly 10 mins walk.
- Hilton Schiphol
- Hotel CitizenM – quite famous, rooms are sold out way in advance
- Hotel Sheraton
The other hotels are not directly connected, but provide free shuttle service to the Airport and come little cheap too.
- Crowne Plaza
- NH Hotel
- Radisson Blu
- Hyatt Place and many other luxury hotels
Tarvellers also can find good budget hotels at airport such as Park Inn, Ibis, Holiday Inn Express etc.
Do look out in maps the distance to airport before booking and check out for shuttle availability. Some of these hotels are quite far from the airport even though fall under larger Schiphol area.

I know that at times spending the whole day out is tedious and having hotel in the city benefits us as we can easily take a nap or just refresh and hit out again. But, I see no reason in not being able to do that by just catching a quick train ride (or say more like metro ride) to Schiphol hotel and be back in an hour or two for evening plans.
Also, while in Amsterdam, I don’t know who needs a break 🙂 And if you do, why not to enjoy the parks and canals and which would make you feel as refreshed as after a good night’s sleep.
